About Dr. Watson
Dr. Clarence Watson is the Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the University of Pennsylvania – Perelman School of Medicine, where he also serves as Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Watson has served as the Statewide Forensic Director for Pennsylvania and the Clinical Director of Forensic Services at the Delaware Psychiatric Center in New Castle, DE, where he directed the Jane E. Mitchell Forensic Building, Delaware’s maximum-security forensic psychiatric service center. He maintains a private forensic psychiatry consultation practice in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
Dr. Watson received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and his law degree from Villanova University School of Law. Prior to his practice as a physician, Dr. Watson practiced law in Pennsylvania. He completed medical internship training in internal medicine and medical residency training in psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at St. Vincent’s Hospital – New York Medical College in Manhattan. Dr. Watson is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry and forensic psychiatry and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
In addition, Dr. Watson has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on topics in forensic psychiatry and he regularly lectures about the dynamics of various psychiatric disorders and the legal system in criminal and civil matters. Dr. Watson’s co-edited text, Psychiatric Expert Testimony: Emerging Applications, was published by Oxford University Press in February 2015.
